Dublin Canvas Project

I have painted a number of traffic light boxes after submitting my creations to Dublin Canvas Project open calls since 2018.

Dublin Canvas Project 2018 - Leave it in the past

It’s about leaving your cares, worries and upset in the past while moving forward to the present/future. I designed a bright, bold and eye catching pattern.

I have a real passion for leaf patterns. The changing of the seasons can sometimes affect people’s mood, and I wanted to design something that would mean there would always be bright and colourful leaves, even in the middle of winter!

Dublin Canvas 2018 - Soulsun

Soulsun is a design I created in order to introduce some brightness into what can be an already dreary city (weatherwise).

I am a massive fan of Damien Dempsey and I named this design after one of his songs. It’s about feeling good in yourself using your surroundings to help yourself feel brighter.

As I write this, today is a dreary miserable day in Dublin city. I wanted to design something bold and eye catching. Something that will stand out against the sometimes grey background of the environment.

Dublin Canvas 2019 - 5th Dimension

This design is an optical illusion style flower that I designed for outside the Phoenix Park.

I was conscious of the grey stone wall of the park, and I wanted to create something eye-catching, with bright colours and a trippy dimensional style that draws the audience in.

Dublin Canvas 2020 - Chris & Stevie

This design was inspired by the song “Chris & Stevie” by Damien Dempsey. He wrote the song about his two friends who took their own lives during their youth.

I wanted to try and create a visual message to the masses, using Damo’s lyrics “be proud of who you are”. The leaves symbolise people, the spirals symbolise the connections/vibrations we make with people around us. When these connections are broken, it can be deeply traumatic and life changing for those left behind with their grief. Life can be dark, it can get you down and overwhelm you, but no matter how hard it gets, there is always hope and always light can be found in even the darkest of moments. This creative message is a reminder to all, that suicide is not a resolution to any problem.

Cavan County Council 2021 - Gaia

I was invited by Cavan Arts Festival in 2021 to paint some street art and I spent two days in Cavan Town painting these electrical boxes. I painted a design I created called Gaia, meaning the mother of earth. I was in a cosmic/galaxy creative phase at the time and that's how Gaia was created.

Dublin Canvas 2021 - Aurora

I designed this cosmic lace flower design for the 2021 Dublin Canvas Project. Named Aurora after the Roman Goddess of sunrise, whose tears turned into the morning dew. She was said to renew herself by travelling from East to West across the sky, announcing the arrival of the sun each dawn.

Dublin Canvas 2022 - Anthea

This design was submitted to Dublin Canvas Project for the 2022 selection. I based the design on Anthea, Greek word meaning flower or blossom. I wanted to create a bright and vibrant design to bring some colour to the very green background. I painted this in 4 hours! A record for me!
